Animals such as penguins, porcupines, owls, flamingos and a cheetah graced the stage during the Maverick Speakers Series lecture with animal specialist Jack Hanna on Feb. 5 at College Park Center.

Hanna, the first speaker for the year, introduced the animals with assistance from zoologists from the Dallas Zoo.

Hanna showed clips from different shows he worked on and told anecdotes about the types of animals present at the lecture. He said he is living his dream, even though people made fun of him when he was young for wanting to be a zookeeper, and he encouraged all the young people in the crowd to pursue what they loved.
